Illustration Friday: Super Hero

Done entirely in adobe illustrator. Gotta love good ol' vector art. :)

I originally did this one, but it wasn't turning out how I had hoped. The hands were my favorite part, and the head was bugging me, so I cropped it. Which in turn gave the image a more conceptual feel.

Okay... So the comment was made that the first crop focused to much on his butt... which is sorta true. So here's how I should have cropped it (if I should have cropped it at all). In the first one I was constraining the proportions.
Also, someone said it looks like he's wearing a skirt. Maybe I should have put a faint little wedgy line to show that his undies really do go in between his legs, but i think I achieved that with the reflected light on his posterior... a skirt wouldn't form to one's butt quite like that. But... enough about superman's butt.

I'm not sure I like it cropped, I think I like seeing the whole thing. Good image!

I prefer the full image too. The cropped version focuses too much on the buttocks.

I like the hands too, but it looks like he's wearing a superskirt! You did a great job expressing his determination, as though he's about to give Lex a knuckle sandwich.

I like this image, David. The drawing of the hands is excellent. I think Superman's skin is a little too yellow and monochromatic. Try putting a tad more red in it. And I think you could have had more fun with the cape. Try getting some really good reference. The transition of colors in the background is really cool, but the shapes get jumbled on the left side because the values are too much the same. Overall, good piece. There's a lot of drama here.
